A question about swimming...

Every time I swim, I get a stuffy nose for hours afterwards. It's incredibly annoying. It happens in the pool and in open water. Does anyone have any idea of how I can prevent this, or fix it afterward? Today I tried a nasal decongestant, which doesn't seem to be working. I've gone through half a box of tissues already this morning...

Perhaps some saline nasal spray after a swim, to rinse all the chlorine and junk outta there?

I'm not quite sure what I mean by "junk", but you get the picture.

Well, it's only been five minutes since I tried a nasal spray, but I think it's working...thanks for the suggestion!

Well, maybe only wait 5 seconds..it might do the trick! Lol.

Have you tried the mentholated kind put out by vics?

I haven't tried that - I used just a regular saline spray and it definitely improved things. I still have a slightly runny nose, but now it's one tissue an hour vs. one a minute.

OK Jessica, this is so crunchy of me to suggest, but what about one of those neti pots? You put salt water in it, turn your head to the side and flush out each nostril. My yoga teacher and her family SWEAR by it for any kind of cold/allergies.

Hey Holly! How did you find me? :-)

I'll try that next time too.

Hi Jessica,
Thanks for your comments regarding using a HRM on my blog.

In reading this post about your stuffy nose, the best method is keep water from ever getting in with a nose clip. I don't use one and I find I get stuffy after a swim, but not as much as I use to.

Using a clip may help you out.

Good luck!
